Basically, what happened is a man got shot. There's been alot of that lately. Prime Minister Tony Blair complains about it, like any good liberal, and wants to do something about it, like any good liberal politician.
This is dangerous, because when a liberal wants to do something about a problem in society, you'd better hang on to your guns, your freedom and your money, because they're gonna try to take the first two from you so they can say they're doing something about the problem, and they're gonna take the last one from you to pay for whatever they're doing to take the first two.
The article addresses how there's been other shootings, so Blair and the liberal establishment start talking about "gun crime".
It's almost as if the guns just jump up, run out into the street, and fire themselves. There are these terrible, evil machines that are killing folks. We don't know how these things got there, except that traditional, conservative society must be involved somehow. Let's ban the guns!
This is a smart thing to do, because it makes it look like you're doing something about the problem. And, while the politicians try to make you think firearms have a life of their own, the truth is they don't, so banning them is easy to do. Because guns aren't alive and can't vote, they won't take it out on you at the next election. And, by the time most folks figure out you goofed things up worse, you're probably retired and can blame it on your conservative successor who's trying to fix the problems you helped create.
An added advantage is that gun control laws are aimed at people who obey the laws, and they're not going to hassle you as much. It takes far less courage to deal with a law-abiding citizen who is unarmed than it does to deal with a criminal who is armed.
The article links to another one, Third schoolboy shot dead within a fortnight.
In that article is a premium quote:
Three days later, 15-year-old Michael Dosunmu who was described as "easy going", was shot dead as he slept in his bedroom in Peckham.
His home was just yards from the spot where 10-year-old Damilola Taylor was stabbed to death with a broken bottle in 2000.
Notice the part about the 10-year-old who got stabbed with a broken bottle.
Why don't they outlaw bottles? Why don't they pass a law that says you go to jail if you break a bottle? That way, they could throw you in jail for having a bottle, and, if that fails, they could throw you in jail for breaking the bottle that you have illegally. That's two chances to throw you in jail before someone gets hurt!
Your problem ain't the guns, you dumb-ass liberal. Your problem is the punks using them. They're the ones breaking the law and doing stuff that's illegal and wrong.
Outlawing guns does no good. Criminals get firearms the way they get narcotics: illegally. If they're smuggling in heroin or cocaine, and selling that, there's nothing to it to throw a few guns in the shipment, some for the drug dealers and distributors, others to sell to folks who want to buy a gun with their drugs. You go to a fast food place and get fries and a drink on the side, why not a 9mm with the your drugs? It'll help you rob the money you need for your next fix.
The problem is the punks. The "bobbies" can't be everywhere, so they won't be able to enforce your gun laws, they same way they can't stop the crime you already got.
Why don't you try loosening up the gun laws? Allow certain folks to not only have firearms, but to carry them concealed. You can require these folks to go through special training on firearm use, so they know how to use them safely, as well as learning about the laws in society, so they understand when they can use them to defend themselves or others. Once enough of your decent folks are armed, the problems with the punks will begin to go away.
You need to deal with the problem. The problem isn't guns, it's punks. If you ain't got the guts to deal with the problem, maybe you can get a gut-injection somewhere, but stop trying to come down on decent law-abiding folks as your way of avoiding having to deal with punk criminals.
